Which Image Format Should You Choose?

  • Choose JPG for photographs. It is a practical choice for sharing photos when transparency is not needed. Lower quality may reduce file size at the cost of visible detail.
  • Choose PNG for crisp graphics. Use it for screenshots, text, logos, and transparency when lossless encoding matters. Converting a JPG to PNG cannot recover details already lost.
  • Choose WebP for web delivery. It combines transparency with adjustable compression. Compare the actual output size and appearance before choosing it over JPG or PNG.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an image converter?

An image converter decodes a picture and saves it using a different image encoding. This tool converts still JPG/JPEG, PNG, and WebP images without changing their pixel dimensions.

How do I convert an image to another format?

Choose or drop your images, select JPG, PNG, or WebP, and click Convert images. After conversion, preview the result and use Download or Download all as ZIP.

Is this image converter free?

Yes. This converter is free to use and requires no account, subscription, or AI credits. Processing happens on your device.

Can I convert multiple images at once?

Yes. Add up to 20 images, with a 30 MB limit per file and 100 MB total input per batch. Each image can contain up to 16 megapixels. The total converted output is limited to 100 MB. Images are processed sequentially, and successful results can be downloaded as a ZIP.

Does converting an image reduce its quality?

JPG and this tool’s WebP export use lossy compression, so some detail can be lost. You can adjust their quality settings. PNG encoding is lossless, but converting to PNG does not restore detail missing from the source. Converting can also change color rendering and does not preserve EXIF or other embedded metadata.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. The converter reads and processes your selected images locally in your browser. Your selected image files are not uploaded to our servers. Clear the batch or leave the page to release the tool’s image resources; download your results before leaving.

Can I convert images on mobile devices?

Yes, in a mobile browser with the required image decoding and encoding support. The tool checks output format support on your device. Large images may exceed a device’s available memory even within the published limits; try a smaller batch if a conversion fails.

Which image format is best for websites?

WebP is often a good option for website photos and transparent images. JPG is also useful for photographs, while PNG suits lossless graphics and screenshots. The best choice depends on the image, its transparency, and the actual size and quality of the exported file.

Does this tool support AVIF, HEIC, GIF, BMP, or TIFF?

Not yet. The current converter accepts and exports still JPG/JPEG, PNG, and WebP only. Animated PNG and animated WebP are not supported.
